And another good day!
Lately I have been dabbling around with ESET Antivirus on workstations and servers while managing it through ESMC.
ESET Antivirus has a ESET Firewall function, however due to a lot of customers having very specific rules and exceptions within their Windows Firewalls i turned that off for workstations. The fact also is that a lot of times, Antivirus firewalls either overtake or conflict with the Windows Firewall (Previous experiences with Kaspersky's Firewall).
This luckily is very easy as it is simply turning 1 option off in the workstation policy.
The issue arose however when workstations started giving warnings as such:
The firewall has been disabled after installation to prevent a network malfunction
These statuses were annoying my ESMC dashboard with active warnings.
After a talk to ESET support it turns out that even if you turn off functions in the active policy, you will have to separately turn off all notifications regarding that specific function.
Below instructions are shown using:
ESET Security Management Center (Server), Version 7.0 (7.0.577.0)
ESET Security Management Center (Web Console), Version 7.0 (7.0.429.0)
Within the policy option, you can find your client policy for workstations. Use the EDIT option. Within the settings for the policy you can look at the interface to find Application statuses.
Choose view to open the list of statuses and turn off all notifications regarding Firewall status detection.
After this is changed, wait for the policies to be applied and the warning will not give you trouble anymore.
So, with ESET ... every time you turn off a critical function in the policy, make sure to check the status list to see whether there are any status notifications turned on that will have to be turned off.
